Warren Weir Quits Track and Field6 min read

Minutes after a disappointing first round finish in the 200m at the 16th IAAF World Championships in London, World Championship and Olympic medallist Warren Weir appears to have called it quits on his track and field career.

The former sprint hurdler, who was transformed into a 200m runner by coach Glen Mills, posted on his Instagram account: “No greater joy than being able to represent my country at its highest level lots of joys and tears and extremely humble to represent my country one last time #TheEnd”.

Weir was fourth in his heat in 20.60 seconds and 26th overall, missing the semi-finals.

He won a bronze in the 200m at the London Olympics in 2012 behind Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake giving Jamaica the 1 2 3 and then took the silver behind Bolt a year later at the World Championships in Moscow.

Since his announcement Weir has received more good and bad feedback from fans and well wishers, many still encouraging him not to give up just yet as he still has a lot left in him and shouldn’t let discouraging words get him down. Others wondered if he has found his love in media and photography and he hasn’t been training as much because of that, either way we want to wish warren all the best with his future endeavours.
