Feluke returns to Stage in Midst of Cancer Fight4 min read

Having recently returned to the island after receiving cancer treatment in Mexico, reggae singer-percussionist Denver ‘Feluke’ Smith turned in a crowd-pleasing set on night two at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, St James.

The entertainer, who has been suffering from stage 4 colon cancer since 2014, travelled to Mexico in April where he underwent a 21-day treatment course.

Having been booked for the show before he fell seriously ill, the entertainer told THE STAR that he was not sure he would make it to the Sumfest stage, let alone complete his set.

“When I came back I thought I was still on the show then I heard I was off the show. Then I decided I wanted to try something for myself with my musicians, and one night I went Instagram live with a rehearsal, and after that uncle Dean Fraser said I was ready. He called Mr [Joe] Bagdanovich and I was back on the show.”

Feluke said his experiences have armed him with enough stories to tell through his music and plans to do just that.

“Someone else out there may be out there going through the same thing and need some help and my job now is to tell people don’t give up,” he said.

“My aim is always to uplift people so you will always be uplifted by a song from Feluke.”
