Charly Black gets Latin Award5 min read

Following the massive global success of ‘Gyal You A Party Animal’, Charly Black continues to wave the flag for Jamaica and dancehall on the international stage.

Charly was in Puerto Rico recently for the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Latin Awards EL Premio – where a song he was featured on was honoured as one of the top pop songs in ASCAP’s Latin repertory for 2016.

The track, titled Pa Que Me Invitan, is a collaboration with Latin superstar Jencarlos and topped charts and music-streaming playlists across Central and South America, in the process cementing Charly’s position as a star in the region.

The track was released by Universal Latin and produced by Maffio and Russian. Charly told THE WEEKEND STAR his work in the Latin market has not gone unnoticed.

Pa Que Me Invitan spent time on the Billboard Latin Pop Songs Chart and Hot Latin Songs Chart and it was given the prestigious ASCAP award for its widespread radio play.

Charly also revealed that he got a chance to network with several Latin stars while at the awards show.

“Hopefully, it will act as a springboard for more collaborations like this for me. I feel, as artistes, we must always look to expand our fan base and break into new markets, and the last couple of years has been a revelation for me in that respect,” he said. “I’m always proud to know that I’m always representing Jamaica and dancehall music out in the world, and continue the great work of my predecessors and continue to break new ground.”
