Tarrus Riley sends message with his latest single “Grave Yard”5 min read

With the murder rate doubling since the start of 2018, “Singy Singy” Tarrus Riley has added message to his music once more for his latest single “Grave Yard”, a track containing a most poignant and relevant question, “Which Part Have The Most Gunman…?”.
Released in a time where there have been several reports of increased violence in sections of Jamaica, Riley’s intention is to persuade others that violent solutions for simple problems is not the answer and should not be done for dominance and popularity. The result of such actions will only lead to a permanent plot.
The gritty visuals for the thought-provoking track were released this week on Tarrus’s Vevo and Youtube platforms. Directed by the award-winning filmmaker Nile Saulter, the video tells the story of a fisherman who moonlight’s as a gunman violence for a better life.
According to Tarrus, “What is happening is nothing to smile about. There is no other way to ‘dress up’ the continuous issue of gun violence in this country. We often times try to articulate our displeasure in politically correct ways resulting in the severity of the matter being dumbed down. Grave Yard explicitly says that if you live by the gun, you will die by the gun and your next place of supremacy will be in a Grave Yard.”
Tarrus will take his “Singy with a Mission” to the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus on Friday, January 26th, 2018 for a special discussion on “The Rise and Fall of Rude Boys: A Conversation on Grave Yard with Tarrus Riley” at the Institute of Caribbean Studies. The discussion is aimed at examining the culture of violence in Jamaica. Tarrus Riley’s Grave Yard single is available on all digital platforms.
